This painting is of a foster dog we had named Mae sunbathing on our deck. She had a lot of spunk despite her badly healed hip, which is visible at the top right of the portrait. Somehow her hip was broken, probably from a collision with a car, and it was left to heal on its own. Despite this injury, Mae could run with the fastest dog at the park. She only spent three weeks with us when her special people came and adopted her.
I used a vibrant periwinkle color to set off her orange and black brindle coat. The foreground has lots of texture to give a sense of space to the painting.
