A robin's egg I found on a walk inspired this painting. I am a forager for still life objects, often picking up things off the ground. The nest was in a tree in our yard. I set these items on a vintage tablecloth from my grandmother. The orange-red tablecloth and the turquoise egg seemed to play off each other. I wanted the light to illuminate the eggshell from within. I used a lot of palette knife work in the tablecloth to keep it loose, and brush work on the egg. The nest is infused with bright colors in thew shadows to make it glow.
This painting was in the Art League's "Remains" show in March 2011.
