I am an American painter living in the Washington DC area. I paint different areas of my life that inspire me: parenting, travelscapes, and intimate views of flowers. I sell original artwork and selected prints. My children's category is mostly available in prints.
I went to school for art, photography mostly, but started painting hand painted furniture when I was pregnant with my first child. I wanted furniture that was colorful and different than the media inspired, low quality stuff that was available. I painted him a lovely dresser with a sun and moon on it. Eventually the furniture took up too much space and I branched out into childrens' wall art, canvas playmats, and growth charts.
A few years ago I started to paint adult art in themes that interested me. Flowers fascinate me because I envision close up compositions with a graphic flair when I look at them. After painting them, I enjoy them even more because I have to examine the flowers with all their intricacies.
I also have been lucky enough to travel extensively with my military husband. A favorite region of mine is the Southwestern United States. The undulating red rock interrupted by tenacious, but beautiful, wildflowers never ceases to inspire me. I try to feature the flora of these desert-like places because they are somewhat overlooked when competing with the grand vistas.
My third inspiration comes from being a mother of two wonderful children. But being a mother is a tough job, sometimes physically, but always mentally. This series explores all the contradictory, and perhaps negative feelings that I have. It also explores some issues middle-class moms face such as nutrition and pushing our children toward success intensely at too young an age. I am using my painting as an outlet for frustrations I face both with society and personally, while trying to raise my children to being caring, healthy, and happy.
